The above questions are probably asked by many people who decide to start a personal blog. Is it really necessary for me to add my ramblings to the din of conversation on the Internet? What insight can I give anyone about anything? Will anyone other than me even read this thing? Does it matter if they don't?
What should I write about? Should I have a theme? Maybe I should write about things I know -- being a journalist, serving as a lay leader in the local church, Star Wars/TRON/other geeky sci-fi things, life in Cheyenne, having a teenage daughter and 11-year-old son, the successes and challenges of a lifelong partnership (17 years and counting that Melissa has put up with me), etc.
How about all of the above? Maybe a blog can simply be an online journal -- a place to record random thoughts and observations as I enter the second third of my life (I'm 40 now, so here's the math part of today's entry).
One things this blog will not be is just a place to bitch about the weather, despite its title. (Though there may be the occasional tip about the proper way to lean into the wind to avoid being blown over as you're walking down the street.)
Obviously there won't be any long-term historical significance to this blog. With that said, however, I'll leave you with some deep wisdom about history, courtesy of comedian Stephen Colbert:
"There's an old saying about those who forget history. I don't remember it, but it's good."
